Southern Italy
Southern Italy is said to begin just below Rome, where cliché’ says that past sauce changes from white to red (cream sauce in the north, tomato sauce in the south!) The West side includes Naples and its bay, framed by Vesuvius, plus the islands of Ischia and Capri (there are others too!) and the very famous Amalfi Coast! Keep going south and you will reach Paestum and the rugged beautiful regions of Basilicata and Calabria.
There are multiple ways to visit the South of Italy, with our without a jump into Calabria or Basilicata. Depending on how ambitious you are, and ideal 10-day program around Bella Napoli could proceed like this:
Day 1 Depart USA
Day 2 Arrival in Rome or Naples – transfer to the Amalfi Coast (Positano, Ravello or Sorrento)
Day 3 Relax & explore! Beach day??!!
Day 4 Relax with a possible day-trip to Capri
Day 5 Day trip to scenic Ravello and Pompei for a guided visit to the excavated city!
Day 6 Relax & explore! Why not a wine tasting or a mozzarella demonstration today?
Day 7 Day trip to Herculaneaum and the Vesuvian Villa of Camplieto. Overnight in Naples
Day 8 Day to explore Naples including the Archaeological Museum and San Carlo Theater
Day 9 Day trip to Caserta, the Versailles of Italy. If you go to Rome tonight, Monte Cassino is right along the way!
Day 10 Return flight to the USA from Rome or Naples!
